Contact Lens Exams

If you are thinking about wearing contact lenses instead of glasses, you will need to have a contact lens exam before you can acquire your new visionary tools. Make an appointment at Family Vision Care in Chesapeake, VA to make an appointment with our optometrist. Here is what you can expect during a contact lens examination.

Contact Lens Exam

Documentation Is Acquired

Before you have your examination, our optometrist will need some information about you for their records. This includes any medical history and prescription usage. You will be asked to fill out some paperwork and let your optometrist know if there are any health issues you are dealing with currently. This information will be kept on file and can be looked upon during subsequent visits to determine whether there is a change in your vision that indicates the need for intervention. You will also be able to provide us with your insurance information so that we can fill out forms appropriately for reimbursement.

Your Vision Is Checked

Our optometrist will have you conduct a few simple tests to check on the health of your eyes. These are noninvasive and only take a few seconds of your time. You look into an eyepiece while our optometrist checks your eyes from the opposite side.  Our practitioner will also check your eyes using different illumination sources. Afterward, your vision is checked for any change in your prescription. You will be asked to read letters and numbers from a chart and will be provided with different glasses lenses to sharpen the images. A contact lens fitting will also be conducted so your new lenses do not shift out of place after they are inserted into your eyes.

Sample Contact Lenses Are Provided

Our practitioner will provide you with a set of contact lenses in the prescription you require. They will teach you how to put these lenses into your eyes and inform you about the importance of caring for them properly. A demonstration on how to remove your lenses from your eyes is also provided so you will not feel fearful about taking them out when you are at home.

Our optometrist will check your eyes with your contact lenses in place to determine they are a perfect fit. You may be requested to come back to our office for a follow-up visit to ensure your new lenses are not giving you any types of difficulties with your eyes and their vision.
